On June 30, 2023, GYXIS Corporation (President and Representative Director: Keiji TANAKA) commenced to charter a newly built dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier built at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., from Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., the owner of the carrier.
The grand naming ceremony was held at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. on June 6, 2023. The carrier, named “Axis River,” is a large refrigerated LPG carrier (a Very Large Gas Carrier, or VLGC) equipped with a dual-fuel engine which can consume both fuel oil and LPG as fuel. The carrier is expected to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants compared to conventional LPG carrier, and is designed to be capable of also carrying ammonia, which is drawing attention as a transport medium for hydrogen—a next-generation energy source—and as a carbon-free fuel.
We will continue to diversify our supply sources by strengthening our own fleet, while striving to reduce our environmental impact, to make further contributions to the stable supply of LPG and the realization of a society which will develop in a sustainable way.
